Coverage

Payroll in 17 states at launch.

State income tax, unemployment insurance and state programs (such as CA SDI, NY PFL and NJ TDI/FLI) are calculated for these states. HR features work everywhere in the US.

Local income taxes (for example Pennsylvania EIT, Ohio municipal taxes, Michigan cities, New York City and Yonkers) are not table-driven at launch. Where a local tax applies, you can enter a flat rate that PayrollGrove applies and labels as company-entered, or payroll for that worker is blocked until supported. More states and table-driven local taxes are next on the roadmap.

FAQ

Pricing questions, answered plainly.

What counts as an active employee?
Any employee who is active or on leave, or who was paid during the billing month. Billing uses a snapshot on the last day of each month, and terminated employees stop counting once they are no longer paid.
Does PayrollGrove file and pay my payroll taxes?
No. PayrollGrove is self-file payroll software. It calculates payroll, tracks every liability and due date, and prepares your NACHA file, tax forms and state wage data. Your company uploads the bank file, makes tax deposits and files returns (or your accountant does). See exactly who does what.
Is there a free trial?
Yes: 30 days with every feature, and no card required to start.
Is anything free?
Companies with up to 5 people that haven’t run payroll in PayrollGrove can use the HR features for free.
What happens if a payment is late?
You’ll see a banner and get reminder emails. A past-due invoice never blocks you from running payroll.
Do accountants and MSPs pay for the partner console?
No. The partner console is free. Each client company pays its own subscription at the standard price.
Will you offer full-service tax filing?
It’s on the roadmap as an optional add-on through a licensed payroll provider. Until then, the plan above includes everything we offer.
Can I leave and take my data?
Yes. One click exports all of your company’s data, including payroll history, tax forms and signed documents, in documented CSV and JSON formats. There’s no annual contract.
